“Wound Up” is a monochrome study and reflection on form vs. function. This painting showcases a lasso, an iconic tool in the American West made for dynamic movement and ranch work. I wanted to depict this tool at rest; the viewer can decide if the lasso is waiting for its next adventure or “hung up on the shelf” as a relic of the past.

I got the inspiration for this painting while working in my sister’s saddle house in Montana. She has this exact lasso hanging up on the wall, waiting for her next ride. I took a photo of it, knowing I’d want to one day use it as a reference for a painting.

“Wound Up” is framed in a natural pine floater frame and has now sold.
