ABOUT
Hi, I’m Meg. Born in Baltimore, based in Austin, and a frequently found in Montana, my work is rooted in the places, objects, and memories that are important to me.
For the past decade, I’ve focused on photorealistic graphite and watercolor portraits, mostly of dogs and primarily on commission. That detail-oriented work taught me patience, precision, and allowed me to connect with and create for a lot of wonderful people. While I’m proud of this period of work, I often felt unmotivated and constrained by the narrow subject matter and style.
To help rediscover my creativity, I decided to teach myself how to paint with oils. The shift in medium has allowed me to feel more comfortable breaking from my perfectionist tendencies, and has helped me express my ideas in a completely new way, allowing me to explore gesture, color, and new subjects.
At the moment, my work ranges from photorealistic-type work to bold, graphic studies. No matter the style, my memories and intuition drive my practice.
I studied Art History at the University of Texas at Austin, where I earned my BFA. My foundation in Art History, along with my 13 years in Austin and time in Montana continues to influence not only how I see the world, but also how I choose to express myself in it.
