ABOUT

Hi, I’m Meg. Born in Baltimore, based in Austin, and a frequently found in Montana, my work is rooted in the places, objects, and memories that are important to me.

For over a decade, I focused on photorealistic graphite and watercolor portraits, mostly of dogs and primarily on commission. That detail-oriented work taught me patience, precision, and allowed me to connect with and create for a lot of wonderful people. While I’m proud of that period of work, I often felt unmotivated and constrained by the narrow subject matter and style.

To help rediscover my creativity, I decided to teach myself how to paint with oils. The shift in medium has allowed me to break from perfectionist tendencies and has pushed me to think about and express original ideas, allowing me to explore gesture, color, and subject matter.

My practice is influenced by my roots in photorealism and monochromatic studies, along with my newer explorations of color and gesture. I am heavily inspired by my time as a Wrangler at a ranch in Montana, along with the years I have spent living in Texas and growing up as a “horse girl” who loves nature and being outside.

I studied Art History at the University of Texas at Austin, where I earned my BFA in 2017. My foundation in Art History no doubt has influenced how I see the world and how I choose to express myself in it.
