ABOUT
Hi, I’m Meg. Born in Baltimore, based in Austin, and a frequent visitor of Missoula, my work is rooted in the places, objects, and memories that are important to me.
For the past decade, I’ve focused on photorealistic graphite and watercolor portraits, mostly of dogs and primarily on commission. That detail-oriented work taught me patience, precision, and the importance of values. While I’m proud of this period of work, I often felt unmotivated and constrained by the narrow subject matter and style.
To help re-spark my creativity, I decided to teach myself how to pain with oils. This shift in medium has allowed me to feel comfortable breaking from my perfectionist tendencies, and has helped me express my ideas in a completely new way, allowing me to explore gesture, color, and new subjects.
Today, my work ranges from more detailed photorealistic-type work to bold, graphic studies. No matter the style, memories and intuition drive my practice.
I studied Art History at the University of Texas at Austin, where I earned my BFA. My foundation in Art History, along with my 13 years in Austin, TX, continues to influence not only how I see the world but also how I choose to express myself in it.
